Nisemonogatari – Episode 6: The Lost Little Bee

I can’t stress this enough, but I freaking love this series. I LOVE everything about it, and I suddenly realized that with this episode, it’s already half over. Join me in saluting such an interesting series. Seriously, join me.

Araragi fails to take all of the poison from Karen, but he manages to take half of it away to lessen the pains involved. This seems to leave Karen in a less weakened state while Araragi…well, acts just like he always has. Walking down the street, he once again spots Hachikuji aaaaaand…gives her…a greeting pat on her shoulder? Oh right, he vowed never to greet Hachikuji in that manner again after the whole Kanbaru incident…right. That apparently is a mistake however, as Hachikuji no longer screws up Araragi’s name because he’s become “boring” to her. It’s only been a day since they had last met, but Araragi is acting entirely different, so Hachikuji tries to find out what’s wrong.

That smile can help anyone "be well".

Through a…what’s that now…fourth or fifth opinion, Araragi learns that children have a different viewpoint on things in life and need to be allowed to live out their lives in ways they believe is right. Young Hachikuji’s ideas of adulthood are quite different from Araragi’s matured viewpoints, and apparently he needs to give his sisters a little more credit than he has up until this point. When the two almost reach Senjougahara’s house, Hachikuji takes her leave as she remembers that she’s not exactly welcome there.

Never mind Senjougahara's strange behaviour...look at that crazy stack of pencils!

So what’s happening in Senjougahara’s place? Don’t get confused…but it’s the sharpening and stacking of hundreds of pencils. She invites Araragi to come in, promising to not knock him out and tie him up again. Through their conversation together, it seems like Hanekawa has a somewhat sadistic and controlling side to her…leaving Senjougahara adding the “sama” suffix to her name and shining her shoes every morning. Only the brains of Hanekawa can leave the undying spirit of Senjougahara in such a defeated state- one of the wonders of the world. Apparently, these pencils are being sharpened in preparation for Senjougahara’s confrontation with Kaiki, which Araragi isn’t exactly in favour of. He wants to tag along, but that idea is violently opposed by a certain purple haired tsundere. She doesn’t want to see Araragi hurt, but the same holds true in Araragi’s case, so they finally reach a consensus and promise to protect each other against Kaiki. Araragi leaves and plans to return before 5 PM for the fated meeting.

That Shinobu...such a tsundere.

With that out of the way, there’s nothing else to be concerned about, right? Wrong. Returning home, Tsukihi is in a frightful panic because Karen has run away…probably in an attempt to once again confront Kaiki. For the first time, Tsukihi seems to be entirely lost and defeated, but she still wants to tag along when Araragi stomps out to search for her. When he refuses to allow her to go, she fears that his trust in her is absent, but apparently Araragi just truly worries for his beloved sisters. It doesn’t take long into his search before Shinobu shows her face and exclaims how she’s basically an unwilling servant to Araragi, whether either of them accept it or not. Since Araragi has a kind heart, he can’t seem to order Shinobu against her will to help find Karen, but he finally caves and accepts her help (is accept the right word here?). Poor Karen hasn’t gone far apparently…a simple point of the finger seems to lead Araragi right to her.

    • Ah, domo. This series certainly deserves respect, although they are taking the fanservice aspect kinda far sometimes. Still, the show itself completely overshadows that and is fantastic. Shinobu is just one of those awesome elements. :D
